I haven't been in college in 23 years, and here I am back at it. I forgot how much fun it is. (yeah, I'm a geek who always did enjoy school). Right now I'm taking pre-college algebra and English. I'm studying a lot. I know the rule of thumb is 2 hours per week per credit, which in my current case would be 16 hours a week of studying, but I think I'm putting more than that in just the math class. I bombed so badly last time I was in college, that I think I might be doing a bit of overkill now, but I really, really want to do very well this time around. I was to get my associates degree and hit the road. I have an appointment to talk to the guidance counselor for the program I was to get into eventually, which is Non-Invasive Cardiology Technology. Yeppers, taking pictures of hearts. Guess all the cardiology reports I loved to do when I was transcribing rubbed off. LOL

This of course means I have almost no time for either knitting or WoW. I've had to stop running the knitting and crocheting group at work, too, as it's in the evening and I have class. I'm still teaching the beading class at work though as it's during the day. I've even stopped carrying my knitting with me all the time. Eek! Gotta remember to have fun. I'm down to playing WoW once a week if I'm lucky. I haven't talked to Wulf, my guild buddy, in ages either. I'll have to send her a note in-game next time I play.

Finished a project

I got Mitch's socks done, finally. I went to Borealis Yarns yesterday to look for sock yarn for Cindi's socks. They have a ton of different kinds and it was a lot of fun trying to pick out what I wanted to use. I found a multi-colored cotton blend which feels really cool when it's knit up. I won't say what until after Cindi gets her socks though so she can be surprised. It's really fun to knit with though. While I was there they had some knit stuffed animals, and I fell in love with a knit hedgehog, so I got that pattern. Don't know when I'll have time to do it, but it sure is cute. One of the shopsters thought I was funny because I thought the 6-0 needles they just got in were nifty (that's 000000). They are very, very tiny. My first thought was "doll socks." Hehe. I had to start Cindi's socks right away, so now I've got two socks going. At least I have a lot of needles. Helps that I'm doing Mitch's on size 3 DPNs and Cindi's on 00 DPNs. Gonna really have to get in more knitting time.

I had a conversation with one of the shopsters that I would like to learn how to change colors some time as I think it would be fun to knit up a shirt with the WoW Alliance logo on it. They've got a class coming up, so I may end up taking it.

Speaking of WoW, I went to Hot Topic for hair dye and they had a bunch of WoW shirts there. I bought Mitch a Horde T-shirt. They didn't have any Alliance T-shirts in my size in stock, but I got a Hunter logo shirt. I also got green hair dye, which I used to dye my bangs. Hehe.

Finished stuff

I finished the socks with the Schaefer Anna yarn. The yarn is gret, but I'm just not happy with the toe shaping of this pattern. It's a square toe, and it's really bunches up in socks. I also finished a sock for Mitch using a pattern from "Sensational Knitted Socks." I found the directions to be very easy to understand. I also liked the toe much better. It's more tapered. I had Mitch try the sock on and it fits beautifully. I'm making the socks using Lyon Brand Wool-Ease. They're meant for Mitch to wear outside in the winter when he is playing. I chose that yarn because it's machine washable. I sure don't want to be hand washing his socks. The sock knit up really quickly as it was worsted weight. It looks nice, too. I think I'm going to be playing with the patterns from this book for a while.

My next project to start is the socks for my sister. I have to find out what color she would like and also what material. I figure a cotton blend because she's in Florida. I see that Paton has some nice cotton now. I'm not sure I'd like to do a 100% cotton sock though for wear, but spa socks might be nice in 100% cotton. Cindi sent me her foot measurements also with some really pretty yarn she had. I'll have to give her a call to ask her what colors, unless she reads here and comments as to what color she would like. I'm hoping to make it to 3 Kittens some time this week if I have some time.

I'm still progressing slowly on my t-shirt. I mainly have been knitting it when I watch TV, which I don't do much of, so it's going slow. I really should work more on it so I can finish it and start the soldier jacket I have the materials for. Busy, busy, busy. I've been looking forward to this for a looooong time. A bunch of knitters from 3 Kittens are getting together for a river cruise. There's going to be designers there, both local and national, and a bunch of activities and vendors. I can't wait. I'm going to have to bring the camera and make hubby show me how to upload pictures when I get back. The details of the Kruise are at the 3 Kitten Mews link, if you want to see the details.

I'm on the home stretch with my second sock! I'm doing the foot part past the gusset now. Easy knitting. I've been plugging away at the shirt, too. I don't watch much TV, but when I do I have my knitting with me. Plus, I can sometimes knit or crochet at work. The knitting and crocheting group I run for the the group home company I work for is located at one of the houses where I work, and I'm always encouraging the ladies there to do some crafting and we sit around and knit and crochet. I do more crocheting there as one of the goals for the k&c group is to make blankets for Project Linus, but I do other stuff too to get them motivated.

The population I work with are mentally ill, and they have a lot of time on their hands. I try to get them to do stuff other than just sit around watching TV. One of these days I'm going to remember to bring in my locker hooking, so I can show the guys a craft that isn't quite so "girly" in their minds.

Socks and Stuff

I finally got through the the heel on my second sock. I think doing the heel has got to be my least favorite part of knitting a sock. After I get done with this pair I'm going to try a different pattern. The Knit to Fit is the only pattern I've used for making socks (this is only the second pair of socks I've ever made), so I'd like to see what else is out there. I have the book "Sensational Socks" and I'm going to try something from there. I have a bunch of socks planned in the near future anyway. My son and husband both want me to make them socks, and I was thinking of doing theirs in worsted weight washable wool for this winter. My sister wants to do a sock exchange, too, and I'll start that once I get finished with this pair. I'd also like to make some for my babysitter and her kids and a couple of other friends. I think I'm going to need to devote more time to knitting and less to WoW. LOL

Speaking of WoW, I finally broke level 58 and made it through the Dark Portal. I got my training for leatherworking and skinning, which were my main goals with getting through. I got my butt repeatedly kicked in the Outlands, so I'm going to stick to Azeroth for a while until I'm a level where I can handle the mobs there better.

Grinding Rep

I've got a ton of quests now in the Blackrock Mountain area, but I want to have my Thorium Brotherhood rep at friendly before I start those, as I need the black dragonscale leatherworking patterns. I'm off killing stuff in both Plaguelands right now, waiting patiently to get through level 57 so I can finally get to through the Dark Portal. I really want to boost my leatherworking and skinning levels, but can't until I can get trained in the Outlands. I'm saving a ton of leatherworking supplies in the bank until I can boost my levels, which means I'm kind of broke as I'm not making and selling armor until I can use it to add to levels. *sigh.

First Post

I started this blog so I could share my knitting ramblings and also to talk about World of Warcraft, two of my favorite pasttimes currently. I've barely started though, so I'll have to work on getting favorite links and such up. I also have to figure out how to download pictures from my digital camera.

Right now my current WIPs are a pair of socks using Shaefer Anna and a pattern that I'll have to look up, the Irish Walking Scarf and a nice cotton shirt.

Currently on World of Warcraft Amaurosis, my night elf hunter, is 56th level. I'm grinding to 58 so I can finally get to the Outlands and boost my skinning and leatherworking skill levels. Pony, my Draenei priest, is currently level 8.
